Prime Minister Narendra Modi will commence the initiation of the work of an oil refinery in Rajasthan's Barmer region on Tuesday and also speak to a public meeting there.

"Looking ahead to visiting Rajasthan. Will go to a programme to mark the initiation of work for the Rajasthan Refinery at Pachpadra, in Barmer and will also speak to a public meeting," Modi said in a tweet.

"The Rajasthan refinery will be the first in the state, which is sanctified with huge oil and gas treasury. This refinery will profit Rajasthan, particularly the hard-working youth of the state," he said.

The plan, a Joint scheme of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. and Rajasthan government, is esteemed over Rs 43,000 crore.

The establishment stone for the refinery was placed by then Congress President Sonia Gandhi on September 22, 2013.
